Pack waterproof, layered clothing including thermal base layers, insulated jackets, waterproof pants, gloves, hats, and sunglasses. PONANT provides a complimentary polar parka and loaned boots.

Your voyage fare includes:

  • Accommodation in your chosen cabin category (all with private bathrooms)

  • All meals, snacks, tea, and coffee during the voyage

  • Zodiac excursions and shore landings led by the expedition team

  • Informative lectures on wildlife, polar history, geology, and glaciology

  • Loan of rubber boots for shore excursions

Flights, optional activities, and personal purchases are extra unless otherwise noted.

Plancius offers a casual, expedition-style atmosphere. It features a comfortable dining room, a lecture room, and a spacious observation lounge with large windows ideal for wildlife viewing. The vibe is social and adventurous rather than luxurious, with a strong emphasis on community and exploration.

Depending on the season and route, you may see:

  • Penguins – Gentoo, Adelie, Chinstrap, and on longer voyages, King penguins

  • Whales – Humpback, Minke, Fin, and Orca are common

  • Seals – Weddell, Leopard, Crabeater, and Elephant seals

  • Birds – Wandering Albatross, Skuas, Petrels, and more

Every day includes Zodiac cruises among icebergs and glaciers, plus shore landings to explore penguin colonies, historic sites, and dramatic landscapes. Optional adventure activities may include kayaking, mountaineering, camping on the ice, and snowshoeing.

  • Nov–Dec: Fresh snow and ice, nesting penguins, and early-season birdlife

  • Jan–Feb: Peak wildlife activity, penguin chicks, and whale encounters

  • Feb–Mar: Excellent whale watching, fewer ships, and late-season light

Life on board is casual and practical. Layered, comfortable clothing is best. Bring warm base layers, waterproof outerwear, hats, gloves, and sunglasses. Rubber boots are provided, and waterproof parkas can often be purchased in advance or onboard.
