Sail in comfort and style aboard the MS Roald Amundsen, one of the flagship vessels of HX Expeditions. Built in 2019, this hybrid-powered expedition ship combines cutting-edge sustainability with thoughtfully designed cabins, all outside-facing to ensure you stay connected to the ever-changing polar views. With 530 guests, the ship balances intimacy with space and amenities that cater to both comfort seekers and adventure travellers.
Cabin Types & Key Features
Expedition XL Suites
The top end of the ship, offering opulent space (approx. 495-517 sq ft), large windows, and most with private balconies. These corner suites are ideal for up to four guests, often featuring sitting areas, heated-floor bathrooms, minibar, and premium amenities.
Arctic Superior Balcony Cabins
Upper deck cabins with private balconies and sea-views. Comfortable layouts with double or twin beds (some with sofa beds), modern bathrooms with heated floors, and amenities like TV, minibar, and tea/coffee facilities. Sleeps two to four.
Polar Outside Cabins
Located on mid to lower decks, these cabins have large windows rather than balconies. They’re practical, seaworthy, and thoughtfully appointed: flexible bedding, en suite bathrooms, views, and comforts like climate control and good storage for gear.
Universal Amenities (All Cabins & Suites)
All accommodations on Roald Amundsen come with:
-
Private en-suite bathroom with shower and toiletries.
-
Flexible bed configurations (queen or twin) plus sofa beds in some types.
-
Large windows or balconies, depending on cabin category, so you can enjoy polar views from your room.
-
Amenities like flat-screen TV, decent storage, climate control.
-
Premium touches in better cabins: minibar, heated bathrooms, sometimes hot tubs or corner suites with extra space.
Choosing the Right Cabin for You
Here are some helpful tips when selecting your cabin:
-
Balcony vs Window-only: If you value stepping outside or fresh sea air, choose a balcony or suite. Window-only cabins still offer excellent views at a lower cost.
-
Deck Level: Higher decks generally offer better views, quieter surroundings, and more convenient access to restaurants and shared spaces. Lower decks may be more economical.
-
Suite Perks: Suites often come with upgraded amenities, priority services (boarding, etc.), and sometimes extra privacy.
-
Group Suitability: Some cabins are ideal for families or small groups (with sofa beds, flexible bedding).
-
Accessibility: HX offers some cabins that are more accessible; check with them if this is required.
